I Used to Think / Now I Think

This is a thinking routine which helps us to make connections between new ideas and prior knowledge. You can read more about it here: I Used to Think - Now I Think_1.pdf (harvard.edu)

EXAMPLE

For example, I used to think that the special help multilingual learners received during their ‘pull out sessions’ were important for several reasons (e.g., self-esteem, extra English support, class pacing, etc.). Then we started collaboration and push-in classes and I started to think differently about what might be other options. You read an article or view a video on the topic in order to learn more.

Write your responses to these stems:

  1. When I read/ viewed this article/ video about this term(s), I had some initial ideas about it and what it was all about. In just a few sentences, I want to write what it is that I used to think about _________.

  2. Now, I want you to write about how my ideas about __________ have changed as a result of what I read/ viewed/ experienced.

Come prepared to share your thinking with others.
