Int’l Teachers: Online and Blended Learning for International Educators

Offered online only from 6 March to 3 April 2021
Weekly synchronous session: 10-11 CEST each Saturday of the course

Facilitator: John Mikton

As recently as just a few months ago your needs on this topic might have likely been very different…but here we are in a world where being skilled in virtual teaching and learning is now an essential. All of us in international schools are now engaged in the complexities and opportunities of online and blended learning in our already complex international settings. In this online learning experience you will explore and practice these essential skills through the lens of ‘dilemmas’ (scenarios) commonly faced in international schools in the online and blended learning space. If you register for this course you will have access to the course and course materials through 16 October 2020.

What Will I learn?

You will explore these questions:

  • How do I create an online course from my curriculum?

  • Do I need to create whole new curriculum?

  • How can I use what I already know about online learning?

  • How do I keep my students motivated and engaged?

  • How do I support student feedback and communication?

  • What strategies can I use to promote student collaboration and independent work within an online learning course?

  • What are effective strategies I can use to give feedback and assess student learning in an online/blended learning environment?

  • What strategies are essential to support social emotional learning?

The curriculum for all TLI courses is rooted in the ‘Standards for International Teachers, which include an elevated emphasis on applying the practices associated anti-racism and inclusion.

What will I be able to do by the end of this course?

  • Efficiently redesign learning tasks and create new learning tasks that are engaging for students

  • Provide effective, timely and actionable feedback using technology tools that best align with the task.

  • Determine which of the three modes of learning (in person, synchronous, asynchronous) work best for different learning tasks and outcomes.

  • Set norms and protocols around learning that build community and streamline communication in an online/blended learning environment.
