Int’l Teachers: Online and Blended Teaching (TTC 115)

How do we prepare students for jobs that may not exist when they graduate? While we may not have a clear idea on what jobs will exist in the future, we do know that students need to be able to learn online and be smart consumers of online media. Teachers also need to know how to apply what they know about face-to-face teaching to become successful teachers of online and blended teaching. This course is designed to support teachers in developing hybrid instructional programs, by combining online platforms and multimedia tools that they can use in their current teaching practice. 

Participants will learn and practice how to:

  • Identify effective activities/strategies that support student learning and teacher productivity/learning in a blended and/or online course.

  • Identify effective strategies for differentiated learning that supports student learning and teacher productivity/learning in a blended and/or online course.

  • Identify the effective features of a blended and/or online delivery system to support student learning and teacher productivity/learning in a blended and/or online course.

  • Identify and become familiar with the technical aspects of Learning Management Systems, video, podcasting, forums, wikis, blogs, social media platforms and other Web 2.0 to support the design of blended and/or online courses.

  • Identify effective assessment and evaluation activities/strategies that support student learning and teacher productivity/learning in a blended and/or online course.

This course will only be offered as an online course. Therefore, It is expected that course participants have a very reliable internet connection 24/7. Participants will need to be well versed in using information technology tools, Google Apps Education Suite and multimedia tools.

Course participants are required to have the following 1 full week prior to starting the course:

  • Gmail Account

  • Twitter Account

  • Diigo Account

  • Skype account

  • A Professional Blog space (Wordpress, Blogger, LiveType or similar) where all assignments, group projects, reflection and multimedia project will be posted.

  • A current blended and/or online course created and facilitated by you in your school

For participants who do not have such a course you will be then expected to build one throughout the course to then be used for a course facilitated by you at your school.

This course is suitable for certified teachers working in international schools.
