Position Title: Secondary Principal
Reports to: Superintendent
Effective: August 2012
Compensation and Work Year: 18 days in addition to the school year calendar.
Position Description: The Secondary Principal position requires executive talent, combined with a visionary outlook and extraordinary interpersonal skills. The principal is the personification of the values and aspirations of the secondary school. S/he must possess the ability to nurture, support, inspire and lead a community of professional educators, a group of student learners, and a parent community with high expectations, while always modeling attributes of fairness and respect. At the same time he/she must stimulate the adults and children under his/her supervision to strive and achieve to their potential. A strong communicator and an equally effective listener, the principal becomes the embodiment of the school’s identity and institutional personality.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree
- Organizational ability, initiative, and effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Bilingual - Spanish/English
- Experience on school committees and/or accreditation
- Interest and experience in providing staff development
- Documented success in curriculum leadership and best practices for assessment
- Proven success in the development of a standards-based curriculum and versed in the UBD model and Big 8 ideas of assessment.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty across all grade levels and subject areas
- Experience developing a collegial, collaborative and positive atmosphere amongst the faculty
- Is a life-long learner – a reader of professional material that can convert theory to practice
- Ability to delegate, build consensus and make decisions.
- Is flexible and has a sense of humor
- Strong leadership skills with integrity and a commitment to excellence
- Knowledge of child development
- Familiarity with second language learning and associated issues
- Sensitivity towards, and understanding of a diverse range of student learning needs
Description of Duties:
- Run the day-to-day operations of this section of the school.
- Provide students, faculty and staff with a rigorous academic program. Organize, administer, promote and provide instructional leadership to the curricular and co-curricular programs of the secondary school.
- Ensure compliance with accrediting agency standards, implement procedures outlined in the faculty handbook, and action steps highlighted in the EBV Action Plans.
- Supervise teachers to ensure student learning, provide feedback on performance, encourage professional development and support and supervise teachers informally and formally through regular visits to classrooms.
- Ensure parent meetings, conferences and timely communication about the secondary school events and programs.
- Develop and meets annual goals, discussed with and set by administrative team, in support of the overall strategic plan. Complete an annual written self-appraisal against annual goals and job description
- Keep up-to-date parent/student and faculty handbooks with recent policies.
- Develop and monitor class schedules and use of facilities.
- Prepare and administer the secondary program budget, requisition appropriate supplies and equipment within that budget, and maintain condition, safety and inventory control over all equipment.
- Develop and place into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing student conduct and responsibilities.
- Organize faculty assignments, be a mentor, and evaluate performance on an ongoing basis.
- Foster and maintain clear, qualitative school - community relations by: keeping the community aware of and responsive to the elementary division’s programs and activities; active participation at school assemblies and programs; providing articles and information to parents directly via the school newsletter and/or on a Principal webpage; participating in parent group such as PTSA.
- Comply with all relevant Board Policies and administration requirements.
- Assist the Superintendent in the hiring of qualified faculty and support staff and/or recommend appointments.
- Work with the admissions office in the making of admission decisions.
- Participating in all school curricular efforts.
- Work with the elementary principal, maintaining clear and consistent lines of communication.

Position Title: High School Principal/MSHS Campus Director
Reports to: Superintendent
Effective: August 2012
The High School Principal/MSHS Campus Director will be the head administrator at the MSHS Campus. The initial contract will be a three year term. If the first contract period is mutually satisfactory, the Board would favor a contract renewal. This is not a stepping stone position; ASFM seeks the commitment of a leader who will make the continued growth and success of ASFM his or her own professional project.
